HOME : http://geocities.com/kauyimhak LUK SIU FUNG in a nutshell. Posted By: Ken Cheng Date: Thursday, 31 August 2000, at 9:19 p.m. In Response To: I have some questions regardig some "Dai Hups" in ancient series. (Melissa) LUK SIU FUNG is Gu Long's classic novel series about an adventurous playboy martial artist and his colorful group of friends, who were also among the greatest fighters of their times. The principals as follow . . . Luk Siu Fung: A devilishly handsome adventurer known for several things: 1). His "four eyebrows" . . . or rather, two eyebrows plus a moustache that gives the impression of him having four eyebrows. 2). Ling Sai Yat Ji . . . Luk Siu Fung's trademark kung fu, in which he uses his index and middle finger as a kind of pincer that can stop virtually *any* weapon. Used offensively, it is a devastating finger-based kung fu that rivals the Yat Yeung Ji finger-fighting style of the Deun Royal Family from Jin Yong's novels. 3). best "hing gung" (flying ability) in the pugilistic world of his time, the most famous of which is "Choi Fung Seung Fei" (Colorful Phoenix Flies Twice). 4) An obssession with wine, woman, and song . . . Luk Siu Fung is a consummate playboy who lives for pleasure, and his greatest pleasures include drinking the finest liquors and flirting with the world's most beautiful women (who flock to this handsome adventurer like moths to a flame), 5). And when he's not indulging in these pleasures, Luk Siu Fung delights in solving mysteries in the pugilistic world. Blessed with a brilliant detective mind as well as powerful kung fu skills, Luk Siu Fung has been known to solve mysteries that stump most others. If there's a mystery to be solved in the pugilistic world (i.e. mysterious murders, lost treasures, secret societies), chances are Luk Siu Fung will be trying to solve it. Because he is so insatiably curious, Luk Siu Fung has many enemies. Fortunately, he also has... 6). A group of very powerful and talented friends, to whom he is extremely loyal and are very loyal to him as well. Friendship and loyalty are of paramount importance to Luk Siu Fung and his comrades, who include . . . Fa Mun Lau: The seventh and youngest brother of the wealthy and famous Fa Family of Gong Nam. Blinded by illness as a child, Fa Mun Lau's other senses are incredibly perceptive: his ears can hear the sound of a single snowflake falling upon a roof, his nose can smell a person's teardrop from over twenty feet away (and identify the person by the smell of his breath or perspiration), his hands can identify a person at the merest touch of their hair (provided that he has touched that persons hair before), and he seems to have a "sixth sense" that can detect danger from a mile away. Although blind, Fa Mun Lau has practiced kung fu since he was a child. He knows many types of kung fu (most of which he developed), and even knows how to use Luk Siu Fung's Ling Sai Yat Ji finger. He is one of the novel's best fighters (about the same level as Luk Siu Fung himself). Sai Mun Chui Sheut: Sai Mun Chui Sheut is a Sword God. Since the age of seven, he has devoted his entire life to the mastery of the sword. Most people *practice* swordfighting as a skill; they are human beings distinct from the sword. For Sai Mun Chui Sheut, the sword is the reason for his entire existence: he is the sword, and the sword is him. Since the age of 15, Sai Mun Chui Sheut has used his Killer Sword Technique to kill hundreds upon hundreds of evil martial artists. Evil fighters who meet Sai Mun Chui Sheut are *guaranteed* a swift death at the tip of Sai Mun Chui Sheut's sword. Sai Mun Chui Sheut is known for: 1) his Killer Sword Technique, which has never failed him and is *always* lethal and 2) a cold personality . . . like a sword, completely devoid of emotion. 3) Sword Gods are always in tune with purity, and thus Sai Mun Chui Sheut always wears snow-white robes, eats no meat, drinks no alcohol, and has no sexual relationships (although that would change after he meets a girl named Sheun Sau Ching, a Ngor Mei Sect member whom Sai Mun Chui Sheut falls in love with and eventually marries); 4) Sai Mun Chui Sheut is completely devoted to the sword -- for him, it is not a mere weapon, it is a *religion*. Neither Luk Siu Fung nor Fa Mun Lau like the idea of killing people, so whenever they are up against extremely powerful enemies and need a lethal option, they try to get Sai Mun Chui Sheut to help them. This is easier said than done, for Sword Gods follow their own agendas and *nothing* can move them to do or not do anything unless they wish to do it. Although Sai Mun Chui Sheut is Luk Siu Fung's most powerful ally, he is also potentially his most dangerous rival. Yip Goo Sing: Like Sai Mun Chui Sheut, Yip Goo Sing is a Sword God. In their personalities, mannerisms, ideals, etc., Yip Goo Sing and Sai Mun Chui Sheut are very much alike . . . so much so that they realize that they cannot *both* exist in the world together (this world ain't big enough for TWO Sword Gods!). Yip Goo Sing battles Sai Mun Chui Sheut in a legendary duel on the roof of the Imperial Palace in Beijing, but Yip Goo Sing has a swordfighting technique called Teen Ngoi Fei Seen ("Flying Fairy Beyond the Heavens") that is so swift and so lethal that it is considered *invincible*, and even Sai Mun Chui Sheut's Killer Sword Technique may not be its equal. Unfortunately, Yip Goo Sing became consumed with political ambition, and arranged a conspiracy to murder the emperor and take his place. His plot was uncovered by Luk Siu Fung and instead of allowing himself to be executed by the authorities like a criminal, the proud Sword God chose to die at the sword of the one man he considered to be his equal: Sai Mun Chui Sheut. See Hung Jak Sing: The World's Greatest Thief. An absolute master of theft who is famed for his ability to steal *anything* . . . even the Empress' underwear! Although he is a good friend of Luk Siu Fung's, he and Luk Siu Fung enjoy playing practical jokes on each other. See Hung Jak Sing is also a master of disguise who can impersonate *anybody*. Honest Monk: The Honest Monk is a seemingly meek and humble monk, but in fact, he is a superb fighter who quietly goes about righting wrongs and helping the innocent. He is another good friend of Luk Siu Fung's. These are the major characters of LUK SIU FUNG in a nutshell. HOME : http://geocities.com/kauyimhak
